Fluency and Speaking II

Today, I am going to continue on the topic of "fluency and speaking" and introduce you to a screen-capture tool called Screen-O-Matic.

Screencast-O-Matic is a screen-capture service used for recording videos and sharing screenshots using PowerPoint slides for example. You can record your screen, yourself, or both, and use multiple cameras. Also, you can easily show or hide your face while speaking in the video.

Pros 👍

  • A simple interface and very easy to use.
  • Automatic publishing options: You can easily publish your video on YouTube even when you are using the free version which makes things convenient for all users. However, for uploading to sites like GoogleDocs, the full/paid version is required.
  • Simultaneous screen and webcam recording: You can also record screen and webcam simultaneously.
  • Both free and paid versions are available, but the paid version is equipped with more features.

Cons 👎

  • On the free version of Screencast-O-Matic, a big transparent watermark will appear right on all your videos after you save them, and if you want to get rid of the watermark you need to buy the paid version. Though for some this might not be important, for other users using Screencast-O-Matic professionally for work, it might be very annoying.
  • Screen-O-Matic is an online recording tool requiring Internet access. Without an Internet connection, you cannot use the tool at all.
  • With the free version, you can record videos lasting for only 15 minutes, not more.
  • Full-screen video cannot be created with the free version.

You can access tutorials about how to use Screen-O-Matic by clicking HERE.

I personally used Screen-O-Matic to create a short clip for my Teacher Education and Development course which might be encouraging for some of you. If I can create such videos with this tool, then, I believe everyone can do it with some practice. You can check it out by clicking on the video below. 💥 I used the paid version to make this video.

The Best Alternative to Screen-O-Matic

Some people may find Screen-OMatic's interface and features so simple and limited, so for those of you who think the same I found an alternative which is similar to Screen-O-Matic in essence, but the interface is a bit more complicated or better say more professional as it gives you more editing options and features which might take you a long time to figure out in comparison to this one. Also, the software allows you to use it offline. You can simply download the app and then install it on your device. After the installation, you would be able to launch and edit your videos without any Internet connection. If you like challenges and have time to try out new things then I highly recommend taking a look at Filmora
